About this tour

The Silvretta offers countless possibilities for an unforgettable ski traverse. Steep crossings, glaciers, ridges and long descents await. The route can be tailored to your wishes, experience and ability, whether travelling from east to west or in the opposite direction, and whether starting in Vorarlberg, Tyrol or Switzerland. The focus can be on climbing famous peaks, finding the best possible descents or combining both. A three-day tour with two nights in mountain huts is just as possible as a five-day traverse of the entire Silvretta.

Itinerary

We can adapt the tour flexibly to your wishes and abilities. One possible itinerary for a five-day ski traverse would be as follows: On the first day, we travel to Ischgl and approach the Heidelberger Hut from the ski area. Depending on the conditions, we may also complete a short introductory tour from the hut. On the second day, we cross the Breite Krone, one of the area’s most popular 3000-metre peaks, and continue via the Kronjoch to the Jamtal Hut. For advanced, fit and experienced ski tourers, the alternative route from the Heidelberger Hut via Marangun d’Urschai, Piz Urschai and Fuorcla Chalaus to the Jamtal Hut offers a particularly scenic and remote option. On the third day, we ascend from the Jamtal Hut across the Jamtalferner glacier to the Ochsenscharte and continue to the ski depot below the Dreiländerspitze. Easy climbing takes us to the summit before we return to our skis. We then continue to the Vermunt Pass, followed by a fantastic south-facing descent to the Tuoi Hut. On the fourth day, we climb from the Tuoi Hut to the Silvretta Pass and enjoy a long and impressive descent across the Silvretta Glacier. On the final day, we ascend to the Winterlücke and ski past the Silvretta Reservoir to the Bielerhöhe. From there, we continue to Galtür and take the ski bus back to the car in Ischgl.

Requirements

You should be able to ski confidently in all snow conditions and have enough stamina for ascents of 1000 vertical metres per day.

Ski-touring experience, confident kick turns and the ability to use avalanche safety equipment, including a transceiver, shovel and probe, are required. Experience using crampons or climbing easy ridges can be helpful if we plan to tackle more challenging peaks such as the Dreiländerspitze.
