About this tour
The small village of Ushguli in northern Georgia, close to the Russian border, is surrounded by excellent ski touring terrain, has reliable snow conditions and is just developed enough for an authentic and unique ski touring experience with a true sense of discovery, without having to give up too much comfort.
I visited the region for the first time in winter 2026 and was able to gain a good understanding of the area, the local customs, the terrain and the local snow and avalanche conditions, while also checking out several great touring objectives. I came to the conclusion that Ushguli is a true ski touring paradise, with countless possibilities in ideal terrain. A real playground.
That is why I would now like to make this region and the unique mountain experiences I was able to enjoy there accessible to you as well by offering a guided ski touring week in Ushguli. You can find a short trip report from my journey in winter 2026 here.

Itinerary
Once the minimum number of three participants has been reached – the registration deadline is in mid-November – I will organise the ski touring trip for us. I will arrange the rental car, or two cars if there are more than four of us, and reserve the accommodation at Baba and Tata’s House in Ushguli.
Once the group is confirmed, we will get together for a joint video call, briefly get to know each other and discuss the flights, the journey, the equipment and all other important details.
We will fly together from Memmingen Airport to Kutaisi and meet there in good time before departure. This way, we can start the journey together and arrive in Georgia at the same time. Everyone books their own flight, but we will coordinate everything beforehand so that we can all book the same flight. Direct flights from Memmingen to Kutaisi usually depart on Monday evenings. Return flights from Kutaisi to Memmingen depart on Monday afternoons.
Day 1: Flight to Kutaisi and overnight stay at the hotel
We will meet at Memmingen Airport and fly together to Kutaisi. We will arrive during the night, pick up the rental car directly at the airport and drive to our accommodation in Kutaisi after landing.
Day 2: An eventful drive to Ushguli
After recovering from the flight, we will begin the varied journey from Kutaisi via Zugdidi and Mestia to Ushguli. The drive is already an experience in itself. Our destination is Baba and Tata’s House in Ushguli. Including breaks, the journey takes approximately nine hours.
Days 3–7: Ski touring in the area
Most of the ski tours can be started directly from the doorstep, while others can be reached within just a few minutes by car.
Day 8: Return to Kutaisi and flight home
We will drive back to Kutaisi and fly home together from there to Memmingen.
Requirements
Confident skiing in off-piste terrain and in all types of snow is required. We will be travelling far away from the usual infrastructure of the Alps, which makes safe and controlled skiing in off-piste terrain all the more important. If you are unsure whether your skiing level is sufficient, we can arrange a preparation tour together beforehand.
You also need sufficient fitness for day tours with 1,000 to 1,500 metres of ascent.

Georgia is generally a comparatively inexpensive country. The additional costs on site should not exceed approximately €500 per person in total.
Frequently asked questions about this tour
What happens if I need to cancel my tour?
Please note that a tour becomes binding once both parties have confirmed it. In the event of a cancellation at short notice, I reserve the right to charge a percentage of the guiding fee as a cancellation fee. You can find detailed information in my cancellation policy. Payment is usually made by invoice after the tour.
What happens if the weather does not cooperate?
Together, we will find an alternative in another region or postpone the tour. There are no additional costs for you in this case.
Is rental equipment available?
Yes, I can provide the technical equipment you need, such as a climbing harness, helmet, crampons or avalanche safety equipment. The relevant tour description and equipment lists explain exactly what is required and what you may need to bring yourself.
