Overview
The Palfrader route on the Geierwand in the Höllensteintal valley near Toblach is an outstanding choice for climbers who enjoy steep, sustained corner climbing—a true masterpiece of Dolomite climbing. The route is around 250 metres long and follows a direct line through the vertical Geierwand. Its south-eastern aspect makes it particularly versatile, as it can often be climbed early in the season or late in the year. Thanks to the relatively low altitude, it is also ideal for an intensive day of climbing without a long approach. Over eight pitches, the Palfrader route follows a striking corner system that runs through the entire wall. The difficulties remain consistently in the upper sixth grade on the UIAA scale and require precise technique and good endurance. In character, the climb is comparable to legendary Dolomite routes such as the Gelbe Kante and is a must for ambitious Dolomite climbers. With an experienced mountain guide at your side, the Palfrader becomes a safe and unforgettable Dolomite adventure, allowing you to enjoy every pitch securely protected as the second climber.

Tour Programme
Travelling together to the Höllensteintal Valley can be arranged in advance. We park at the Landro climbing area, which also provides an ideal meeting point. From here, the approach to the start of the Palfrader route on the Geierwand takes approximately one hour. After completing the climb, a path leads southwest back to the foot of the route and then continues to the car park. The Palfrader route can also be perfectly integrated into a climbing week in the Dolomites. Thanks to its short approach, it is an excellent choice for completing a rewarding and demanding guided Dolomite climb on either the arrival or departure day.
Meeting Point
Start: 08:00 - Landro
End: 16:00 - Landro
The stated meeting point, start time, and end time should be understood as an initial suggestion. Before the tour, we will coordinate individually and adapt everything to the current conditions — and, whenever possible, arrange to travel together.
