Overview

The Stubai Valley and its side valleys offer many opportunities for ice climbing and often provide good conditions early in the season. In particular, the Tröglerfall is a reliable option for climbing at different difficulty levels and for creating a course programme tailored to your needs — so you can learn exactly what you need in order to ice climb independently. The Grawa ice climbing area also offers the opportunity to climb many routes with up to five pitches. Here, too, the programme can be individually adapted to your level, skills, and goals. The routes in the Grawa ice climbing area are especially well suited for coaching already experienced rope teams. In good conditions, the Pinnis Valley, a side valley of the Stubai Valley, is also a promising location for ice climbing. However, the routes there are generally more demanding. Depending on which icefall we choose and on the current conditions, we should meet at 8:00 a.m. in Neustift or Innsbruck on both course days.

We adapt the programme to your ability and help you push your limits further.

Whether you are new to ice climbing or already more advanced, the Stubai Valley offers countless possibilities. If this is your first time ice climbing, previous experience from high alpine tours or rock climbing is an advantage. If you already have ice climbing experience, we can build on your current level of knowledge and ability and help you push your limits further.

Tour Programme

We travel together to the Stubai Valley to one of the icefalls. There, I design a programme to introduce you to ice climbing or to help you push your limits further — both in terms of your ice climbing technique and the necessary rope and belaying skills. On the following day, we continue to apply and consolidate what you have learned.

During the course, we will focus on the following topics.

Ice climbing technique:
Movement, placing the ice tools, correct crampon technique, tactics, efficiency, and more.

Rope and belaying techniques:
Top-rope climbing, placing ice screws, abseiling, building belay stations, rope team procedures, and more.

Meeting Point

Start: 08:00 - Neustift im Stubaital

End: 16:00 - Neustift im Stubaital

The stated meeting point, start time, and end time should be understood as an initial suggestion. Before the tour, we will coordinate individually and adapt everything to the current conditions — and, whenever possible, arrange to travel together.
