Overview
The route “Den Weg, den es nicht gibt” — usually described in Italian as “La via che non c’è” — through the north face of Cima Brenta is a demanding alpine ice route with a rare and special character. It follows a wild, logical line through chimneys and corners — a route for experienced alpinists and ice climbers looking for a unique challenge. When the route forms as a continuous ice line, very little mixed climbing is required. The maximum difficulty in pure ice is around WI5. Due to the difficulty of the route, I offer this tour with only one guest.

Tour Programme
We meet for the journey to Madonna di Campiglio. On the first day, we approach Rifugio Tuckett, where we spend the night in the winter room. Depending on the snow conditions, the approach is done either with or without skis or snowshoes.
The next day starts with the approach to the face. The route begins at a distinctive but easy chimney at the end of a gully. After around three pitches, we reach the first snowfield. At the end of this snowfield, a steep rock step and an approximately 10-metre ice curtain await — the key section of the route.
The final three pitches are the most spectacular, leading through a steep chimney-like corner and through a natural rock window up to the summit of Cima Brenta. The descent follows the route by abseiling from ice threads. At the end of this outstanding climbing day, we make our way back to the car in Madonna di Campiglio.
