About this tour
The Lechtal and its surrounding mountains offer an impressive variety of alpine climbing routes on excellent limestone. From the scenic south pillar of Rockspitze and the diverse climbs around Wolfebner to the steep south face of Gehrenspitze, you'll experience exciting multi-pitch routes and spectacular mountain scenery. Autumn is a particularly rewarding time to explore these mountains, as the summer crowds disappear and the valleys grow quiet. Over three days, we'll discover some of the region's finest alpine climbs together. This trip is ideal for experienced climbers looking to explore classic routes with a local mountain guide.
Itinerary
Rockspitze South Pillar
We meet in Zürs am Arlberg and walk through the particularly beautiful, quiet Pazüeltal at this time of year, first on a forest track and then off trail towards the beginning of the Pazüeljoch.
The south pillar offers enjoyable UIAA grade 3 climbing in a magnificent setting: an ideal warm-up. After the climb we descend from the summit on the north side into the Pazüeltal and return to Zürs.
Wolfebner Climbs – Hermann-von-Barth Hut
We meet in Elbigenalp and walk up to the Hermann-von-Barth hut. Around 30 minutes from the hut, the south and west faces of the Wolfebner offer numerous routes of all grades, with 150–350 metres of climbing. Options range from Helle Schicht (UIAA 4+) to Barthgeier (UIAA 7−).
The Hermannskarturm, reached in about an hour, is home to Via Jonas: one of the Lech Valley’s finest enjoyable guided climbs, with nine pitches up to UIAA grade 6.
Lechtalblick
We meet in Wängle near Reutte and approach via the Gehrenalpe to the Gehrenspitze’s south face. The approach takes about two hours.
The modern Lechtalblick route offers six to eight pitches on excellent rock. Its official UIAA 7− grade refers to a single move that can also be climbed A0 using the bolts. The remaining climbing ranges from UIAA 4 to 5+.
We descend via the normal route and finish our climbing days with a relaxed stop at the Gehrenalpe.
Another excellent option is a climb on the Freispitze’s south face, especially rewarding for experienced alpine climbers. Discover the Freispitze and enquire individually.
Accommodation between climbs
You arrange your own accommodation between the climbs.
Requirements
This three-day programme is for more experienced climbers with knowledge of alpine and multi-pitch climbing. You have at least sport climbing experience and are sure-footed on approaches through alpine terrain. You can confidently second UIAA grade 5 and reliably belay a lead climber.
