About this tour

The south-facing walls of Gimpel, Gehrenspitze and the surrounding peaks offer ideal conditions for enjoyable days of alpine climbing in the Tannheim Mountains. Autumn is a particularly beautiful time to visit, with pleasant temperatures and fewer climbers on the popular routes. Together with me as your local mountain guide, you'll discover carefully selected multi-pitch climbs and enjoy the experience of alpine climbing while following on the rope.

Itinerary

Alte Südwand on the Rot Flüh

We meet at the Gimpelhaus car park in Nesselwängle and start with a short equipment check. We walk up to the Gimpelhaus, then continue past the south face of the Hochwiesler to the start of the route. The approach takes about 1.5 hours.

The climbing is wonderfully varied, with corners, slabs and short vertical sections. The crux is a short overhang that can be negotiated easily using an etrier.

The route has eight pitches. Short sections reach the lower fifth grade; most of the climbing is UIAA 3 and 4.

We descend via the Rot Flüh’s normal route into the Judenscharte and then to the valley. If you would like more climbing, we can add the Gimpel West Ridge. Discover the Gimpel West Ridge.

Gehrenspitze South Face

We meet in Wängle near Reutte and walk up to the Gehrenalpe and on to the south face of the Gehrenspitze. The classic south face is one of the oldest routes in the Tannheim mountains and follows a natural line.

Several variations of different grades are possible in the lower section. The route is 200 metres long, has six pitches and never exceeds UIAA 4+.

Accommodation between climbs

You arrange your own accommodation between the climbs.
