First Ascent on the Gehrenspitze South Face: “Reconquista”
A new route on my home mountain, the Gehrenspitze – the peak where I gained my first experience of alpine climbing.
On 26 May 2023, together with my friend Martin Baldinger, I opened a new route on the south face of the Gehrenspitze in the Tannheim Mountains. On a wall with such a long climbing history, it is by no means a given that there is still room for a new route at all.
The route starts after the fourth pitch of Lechtalblick and climbs in a direct line to the summit. Although it is only four pitches long, the traditional protection with just a few bolts and the varied climbing still make it a demanding undertaking.
Either way, the first ascent was a wonderful experience for us, and one I like to look back on.
