About this tour

The impressive south face of Rote Wand and the striking rock pillars of Rockspitze are among the most spectacular alpine climbing destinations around the Arlberg. Long multi-pitch routes, steep limestone and varied climbing make this a rewarding experience for experienced alpine climbers. In autumn, the mountains around the Lechquellen range often reveal their most beautiful and peaceful side. Together with me as your local mountain guide, you'll enjoy two days of challenging alpine climbing surrounded by spectacular mountain scenery.

Itinerary

Rote Wand – Via Cosimo

We meet in Zug, a village belonging to Lech, and travel to the Formarinsee by car, bus or e-bike, depending on the situation. We then approach the foot of the Rote Wand through beautiful scenery. Its south face rises up to 400 metres and offers excellent rock, countless alpine routes and a long climbing history.

Via Cosimo (UIAA 6−) is a classic and one of the easier routes. Other excellent options include Akrobat Schön and Kannan at UIAA grade 7.

Wollmann-Weber Route – Rockspitze

We meet in Zürs am Arlberg and walk through the particularly beautiful, quiet Pazüeltal in autumn, first on a forest track and then off trail to the route at the Pazüeljoch.

The Wollmann-Weber route in the central part of the face is a real highlight. Most of the climbing is UIAA grade 4 and 5. A distinctive section is the 25-metre shoulder-width crack on the third pitch.

We descend from the summit on the north side towards Zürs. If snow already covers the north side, we abseil down the Rockspitze South Pillar instead.
